The Safe Chapter is a community initiative by Flirtatious Fiction dedicated to help women find comfort, support and their next safe chapter.
About The Safe Chapter
As a woman-owned bookstore, we know that for many women, spaces like ours can become more than just somewhere to shop. They can be somewhere to breathe, switch off, feel comfortable alone, and enjoy a moment of peace without judgement.
We wanted to take that feeling one step further and create something that could make a real difference within our local community.
Through Safe Chapter, we will be collecting community donations to create thoughtful care packages for women who may be going through difficult or uncertain times. Every donated item will come from the kindness of our customers and community, making each package a reminder that no woman is alone.
Alongside our care packages, we also want to help create safe pathways towards support. Within our store, women will be able to discreetly access information about local support services, in a welcoming and comfortable environment.
We understand that asking for help can feel overwhelming, and our hope is that Safe Chapter can offer a gentle first step towards support for anyone who may need it.
This initiative is built on compassion, community and care. It's about women supporting women, creating a space where kindness matters, conversations feel safe, and support is always within reach.

Discreet support information
At Flirtatious Fiction, we want Safe Chapter to be more than just a community initiative — we want it to help create a space where women feel safe, comfortable and supported without fear of judgement.
We understand that reaching out for support can feel overwhelming, which is why discreet information about local support services, will be available within our store in a calm and welcoming environment.
Women will be able to access information privately, and we will always approach conversations with kindness, compassion and confidentiality. We never want anyone to feel pressured or uncomfortable when seeking support.
For those who may need help discreetly, customers can also use the phrase:
“Is Safe Chapter in stock?”
This will quietly alert a member of staff that support or assistance may be needed, allowing us to help in a safe, respectful and discreet way.
Above all, we want every woman who walks through our doors to know that they are welcome, supported and never alone.
Supporting South Ayrshire Women’s Aid
All donations go directly to South Ayrshire Women’s Aid, a vital organization providing specialist support, advocacy, and safe refuge for women and children experiencing domestic abuse. By donating, you are helping them provide essential services that offer a lifeline to those in need. We want you to know that every contribution, no matter the size, makes a real, tangible difference in rebuilding lives within our community.

Donate items in store
We are always accepting donations of new and unused items to help us create care packages for women who may need extra support and comfort.
Requested items may include:
- Toiletries & hygiene products
- Skincare & self-care items
- Pyjamas & cosy socks
- Haircare products
- Comfort items & small gifts
- Everyday essentials
All donated items must be new and unused. Donations can be dropped off in-store during opening hours.
Help spread awareness
Sharing Safe Chapter on social media, talking about the initiative, or encouraging others to donate helps us reach more women who may need support and more people who want to help.

Safe Chapter works to help connect women with local support services. Raising awareness of these organisations helps ensure women know support is available when they need it most.
